A Note From Viet Art
Dear Friends of Viet Art:
If you have yet done so, this is a Final Call for Submission of your Voter Registration.
You “must deliver it or mail it within 3 days, or at least 15=2 0days before the election, whichever is earlier” (quote from the Voter Registration Form). Now, the math for the official deadline is for you to calculate.
“The things that will destroy us are: politics without principle; pleasure without conscience; wealth without work; knowledge without character; business without morality; science without humanity; and worship without sacrifice.” (Mahatma Gandhi)
The market is up; the market is down; it’s awfully “volatile” out there. The Americans are facing some tough decisions in the upcoming week. Who should you vote for? How about the politicians (local and national) who possess “the most” or hopefully at least ‘tolerable” integrity? Unfortunately, they are hard to find these days. Fortunately, you, and only you, have the ultimate freedom to decide whoever are “the good, the bad, a nd the ugly”.
So please “VOTE” independently and responsibly!
Peace and love,
Michelle Phuong Thao
Executive Director, VAC

1. Wednesday, October 15, 2008 Global Handwashing Day
Sorry for the belated news about the first-ever Global Handwashing Day, slated for this week, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 organized by these agencies: UNICEF, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), USAID through the Hygiene Improvement Project (HIP), Proctor and Gamble, Unilever, and many other organizations.
Here’s a sample statistic to signify this meaningful day:
“Of the approximately 120 million children born in the developing world each year, half will live in households without access to improved sanitation, at grave risk to their survival and development. Poor hygiene and lack of access to sanitation together contribute to about 88% of deaths from diarrheal diseases, accounting for 1.5 million diarrhea-related under-five deaths each year.”
Check out this website to learn more about this special effort and for your contribution:
By the way, I do not see Vietnam in the list of countries. From my recent trips back to
Vietnam, I believe that Vietnam should be on the watch list as well. So for the nonprofit
organizations which are raising funds for charitable projects targeting Vietnam , please
include “soaps”, yes, plenty of soaps, in your gifts to the orphanages or the “houses of

Wednesday, October 8, 2008 – Dreaming Spring and Wild Jungle
…There were two lovers. The man wanted the woman to bestow on him not only her beautiful body but also her brimful soul, her gracious passion, and her innocent heart. The woman, hesitant but passionate, could not refuse the sweet invitation, bestowed everything, unconditionally, wholeheartedly.
They promised that they would meet in the wild jungle and roof a thatched cottage near by the dreaming spring…Dream or true? Who knows! Reality or fantasy? None can tell! Though, everyone knows one fact, that is: this life is full of desirous invitations and passionate sacrifices…(translated by Que Nghi)
